Certain animals molt. The old skin grows tight and so it's shed so the new skin can grow. I think INFP go through the same process as they grow into their ideal self.
Every so often as the INFP grows more into their ideal, they realize that their old skin doesn't fit them so they shed it. This could mean losing old acquaintances and meeting new people. It could mean moving to a new location or quiting your job and finding a new one. This molting process usually always entail getting rid of things (physical, emotional, etc) that you realize was no longer of use. And it also entails embracing new things to replace what you got rid of.
Another way to sum it up is this: Life is going from one set of problems to a better set of problems. Molting moves you to a better set of problems. That's why INFPs in the phase embrace the new because the answers to the new problems aren't to be found in the things before.

once per yearly cycle (early spring)
and i have a mamMoth transformational molting every two years

Tue, April 10, 2007 - 10:14 AMI do this every two years... (And I always thought it was just me! Everyone in my family has come to shake their heads and just wonder in quiet at what I will morph into next...)
I tend to pick up and move, from one end of the city to another, to a whole different city... Change all my short term friendships, try out completely new interests, hand focus on a totally different aspect of self evolvement/growth/change. (I do have some long-term friendships in the 10-20 year strong range. The funniest part is that we all took the Meyers-Briggs about the same time and they are all ENFP's, go figure that one out... Hmmmmm...)
I wish that I was less of a pack rat... But I will say that each time I shift, I do loose more and more of the "stuff". Perhaps it is a sign of getting older too? -

Gosh ..I do this more often than two years but I believe its taking a little longer than a year as I get older..when I was younger I felt a need for this as often as every couple of months.......Ive moved from state to state...cut my hair/dye it....change my workplace.........stop calling some of my friends ( who I thought wee friends at one time).........change my thinking....... empty all my cabinets... the color of my clothes always stay the same black/blue/gry..lol ..but I change the style up a bit .

Thu, April 12, 2007 - 2:10 AMI must molt every 6 months or so, although I never thought of it as molting until now. It seems as if I am constantly giving away nearly all my possessions, moving, changing jobs, changing close connections, etc. Some people call it "ungrouded" others call it "molting."

and they had not heard from me in a year

Thu, April 12, 2007 - 5:26 PMThats cute....Your cats are lucky ......I "try "these days to be more stable..I find that this molting thing takes over sometimes ..the other day I just really felt like piercing my lip just because I needed to feel refreshed...a new me...starting over....... Everytime I want to start over I search for off the wall things..dont know why. It makes me feel good . -

I guess mine is every 2 years and now i cant wait to get a new skin... ... on one hand, I am feeling excited about the upcoming change but on the other hand, I am feeling anxious in face of lots of uncertainties.. Anyway, still can't wait for a big change and step into a new page of life!!!! ^_^ -

Reading the previous posts has totally charged up my energy level! I feel that I am always thinking about my next endeavor in life. I become dissatisfied with just about every situation after a relatively short time. Lately I'm into giving away possessions that I have been holding on to for no reason at all. A lot of people tell me that I have too many interests and that going in so many directions will stress me out. I am currently "molting" as I am making the transition from environmental consultant to inner-city science teacher. Less than a year ago, I moved from quiet suburbia into a bustling city life. I just have to keep moving and I need to learn to accept it!

Since I was about 10 or so I realized that going to a different school, going to college, changing cities, and starting a job were all distinct opportunities to reinvent myself of molt as the author of the text so poetically put it.
